Title Catholics at Work presents John Morales
Description John Morales, Host of Catholic Exchange Today and former Fox sports anchor. Understanding Sports as a Metaphor For Life’s More Difficult Lessons. Former Fox Sports Net Anchor Turned Values Anchor Reports on Champions of Faith. The great Lou Holtz said, "I've never known anybody to achieve anything without overcoming adversity." The world of sports is a microcosm for life that magnifies, for all to see, great successes. But the personal road that players take to achieve this success is often overlooked. It has been said that the difference between a great player and an average player is the great players will do the mundane things when nobody is looking. This is true on both the physical and spiritual level and it defines the essence of Champions of Faith. Catholics@Work is proud to announce Mr. John Morales, a former sports reporter and anchor Fox Sports Net; co-producer, writer, and narrator of “Champions of Faith: Baseball Edition, a groundbreaking, multiple award winning sports film that showcases the intersection of sports and faith in Major League Baseball, will be the featured speaker at the breakfast event on February 9, 2010. John will share with us his perspective on the importance of living your values, everyday, and demonstrate the incredible value lessons we can learn from sports. Mr. Morales said, “Sports clearly show the importance of basic values in our lives”, he continued, “the successful players and teams embrace the values of perseverance, courage, sense of duty and fair play, just to name a few.” John Morales is currently a field agent with the Knights of Columbus, the largest Catholic fraternal organization in the world who manages two burning passions, sports and his Catholic faith. John began his sportscasting career in Chicago on WBBS-TV in 1984-85 as the creator, host and producer of “Beisbol En Chicago,” the first Spanish language television program that showcased the Hispanic contribution to Major League Baseball. From 1987 to 2005 John served as reporter and anchor for radio and TV sport shows covering Michigan's 1997 national championship in college football, 3 Stanley Cup Finals appearances by the Detroit Redwings including back to back title in 1997-98, and Michigan State's 2000 national championship in college basketball. John has been privileged to interview some of the greatest and most well-known athletes in recent history including Michael Jordan, Walter Payton, Larry Bird, Pete Rose, Gordie Howe, Evander Holyfield, Tommy Lasorda and Jack Nicklaus. John has been able to share his unique perspective on sports and faith on Relevant Radio, EWTN, Ave Maria Radio, and Michigan Catholic Radio. He also has been a speaker at many conferences and parishes around the country. John also worked as Sports Director and Network Correspondent for the Relevant Radio Network and produced and hosted a weekly radio program called “Catholic Exchange Today,” which was heard on over 30 Catholic radio stations weekly across the country and on the Catholic Channel on Sirius Satellite. Through his work he has interviewed many Catholic athletes who have given their faith testimony, including Mike Sweeney, Jack McKeon, Mike Ditka, Mike Piazza, Mark Prior, Tommy Lasorda, and many others. Attila Bardos, president of Catholics@Work, and avid sports fan, said, “The press covers, with great fan fare the failings of young people in the sports arena and very little is mentioned of the many who are of great character both on the field and off.” In referring to the work of John Morales and the Champions of Faith, Mr. Bardos recalled a comment by Bishop Fulton J, Sheen, “The proud man counts his newspaper clippings, the humble man his blessings.” Mr. Bardos continued, “This is at the core of what John will be talking to us about, I encourage all to put this on your calendar now and be sure to invite a friend to what will be a most uplifting and interesting talk.” The Catholics@Work breakfast event will be held at Crow Canyon Country Club, 711 Silver Lake Drive, Danville, CA 94526 on Tuesday, February 9, 2010.
